Frequently asked questions

Why do I keep getting WebP files?

Most large websites now serve their images as WebP because it is 25–35% smaller than JPG, and saving one gives you the WebP as it is. Browsers open it fine, but plenty of older apps, upload forms, and editors do not.

What happens to a transparent WebP?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep the see-through parts, convert to PNG instead.

Can I convert an animated WebP?

Only its first frame is kept — a JPG holds a single still image. For stickers and simple graphics that is usually what you want.
