Resize an image for Instagram.
Settings
We adjust quality and dimensions automatically to hit your size. Pick the output format under Export settings — JPG and WebP compress best.
Your photo is center-cropped to the exact size — no stretching — and saved as JPG. Set a max size for portals that reject files over a limit, like 50 KB.
Instagram is sharpest when you upload 1080 px wide images. The width is pre-set — drop a photo, resize, and post without the blur.
- Photos are resized on your device — nothing is uploaded
- Hit an exact file size like 20 KB, not just a smaller one
- Passport and portal presets, cropped without stretching
How it works.
- 1Drop your photo into the box — width is pre-set to Instagram’s 1080 px.
- 2Keep 1080 × 1080 for square posts, or clear the height to preserve your photo’s natural ratio at 1080 wide.
- 3Tap Resize for Instagram and download the optimized image.
Frequently asked questions
What sizes does Instagram actually use?
Feed images render at up to 1080 px wide: 1080 × 1080 for squares, 1080 × 1350 for portrait (4:5), and 1080 × 566 for landscape. Stories and Reels use 1080 × 1920. Uploading at exactly these sizes avoids Instagram’s own re-compression blur.
Why do my Instagram photos look blurry?
Usually because the upload was much larger or smaller than 1080 px, forcing Instagram to rescale and re-compress it aggressively. Pre-sizing to 1080 px gives its compressor an easy job.
Does this tool crop to square?
It resizes without cropping. To get an exact square first, use our crop tool with the 1:1 preset, then resize here.
